How is poverty defined in China?  What progress has China made in poverty reduction? What approach has China taken to eliminating its extreme poverty?  How is China addressing the poor’s dependency on external aids?  Apart from its unique insititutional factors, what lessons can China share with others in poverty reduction?  What is China going to deal with reducing poverty and inequality in coming years after its extreme poverty had been eradicated by 2020?

About the Speaker

Dr. Guobao WU, is a professor and director at the Center for Poverty Studies with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.  He has over 30 years of experience in research and advisory work on poverty and development issues.  Apart from academic works, Mr. Wu has been extensively involved in advisory and consulting assignments for both government departments in China and bilateral and multilateral development agencies.
