Introduction

How one nation perceives the other is an important driving force for smooth cooperation between two countries. The main objective of this study is to understand how the People’s Republic of China (PRC), is perceived in Albania. It is intended as a thorough qualitative study, this research aims to identify the general sentiment among Albanians towards China.

Employing customized surveys in the Albanian language, this research attempts to have some insights into the source of people’s perception, understand which are the keywords of their thoughts, acquire feedback on what embodies common feelings and identify in which direction this perception is oriented. The largest part of the study examines the perception of Albanian citizens, from all walks of life in a very comprehensive social/economic/geographical distribution, in trying to understand the general feeling toward PRC.

Next, it is examined the attitude (and perception) of Albanian experts, professionals, or persons who at one time or another have expressed their views on China.

Lastly, a media outlet analysis is conducted by screening the main topics of headlines related to China, its portrayal, and of course inclination and propensity.

The results are displayed graphically and analytically, for each question and are summarized by analyzing each specific answer and the percentages of any response. We intend to highlight the main patterns observed; gather the main outcomes in similar groups and identify predominant trends of China’s perceptions in Albania.

Hereinafter, we and ours (opinions, ideas, etc.) refer to the AIGS Institute staff.
