On 13 April 2022, the China-CEE Institute invited Prof. Xu Qiyuan, Deputy Director of Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, to deliver a lecture entitled “China’s Macroeconomic Situation and Policy Outlook”. The Institute’s non-resident researchers and researchers from partner institutions participated in the lecture.

In this lecture, Prof. Xu answered several key questions about China’s macroeconomic situation and challenges: How is China’s economic growth momentum? How about the expectation of growth and its key drivers? How much easing can be expected for the macroeconomic policies? What is the outlook for the collaboration between China and EU? Prof. Xu unfolded the main concerns amongst economists in China by targeting the most pressing issues in China’s economy and showed how Chinese economists perceive the current state of affairs.

The lecture lasted about one hour in total. During the Q & A session, the participants posed several questions about the economic consequences of using a shutdown to limit the Omicron variant, the major challenges for Chinese market mechanism in Ukrainian crisis and West’s conflict with Russia, etc.
