LECTURE: From DC/EP to Digital Yuan: China Start an Era of Sovereign Digital Currency?

Professor CHENG Lian,  is Vice Director, Center of Financial Policy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Head of Department of Fundamental Research, Institute of Finance & Banking, CASS. He is also the Executive Deputy Editor-in-chief, Chinese Review of Financial Studies, one of the top Chinese academic journals in financial research. Prof. Cheng received his Ph.D. in economics from the Graduate School of CASS in 2003. His academic interests focus on payment system, Fintech, international monetary system and economic geography. Prof. Cheng published on the above topics in peer-reviewed journals including China Economic Quarterly and Journal of World Economy. He is also the author of an academic book on Internet-based finance. Prof. Cheng organized many major research projects besides his own publication. The results of these projects have contributed to related authorities’ policy-making. Some of them got notice and comments from the top leaders of China. He also coordinated many international cooperation between CASS and foreign institutions including CLS, Nomura Research Institute and Korean Capital Market Institute.
